TYPES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF RETAINING WALLS WE WORK ON 

Concrete Sleeper Retaining Wall

  • The size, thickness and length can vary. Concrete sleepers are 200 mm wide and between 75 and 100 mm thick;  
  • Available in standard lengths between 1.5 m and 2.4 m 
  • Various finishes, including smooth, textured or coloured textured 
  • 100% termite resistant 
  • Due to the weight of the sleepers, we have specialized equipment to raise them.
  • Constructed with hot-dipped galvanized steel posts  
  • Tend to be more expensive but lasts forever 
  • Can be built up to 3 m high 
  • Possibility to install fences directly on the sleeper 
  • Robust and durable 

Timber Retaining Wall

  • Posts made of PCA-treated hardwood, with a choice of CCA hardwood or pine lumber  
  • Lighter option  
  • Unlike concrete, you can custom cut the wood for specific angles 
  • Perfect for building stairs or planter boxes 
  • Wood stain options 
  • Durability – when using CCA-treated hardwood and hot-dip galvanized steel posts, wood sill walls can last over 30 years 
  • 75 x 200 mm or 100 x 200 mm in standard size and thickness.
  • Thresholds are usually 50mm, 75mm or 100mm x 200mm wide (cut to the desired length) 
  • Depending on the desired height, engineering adjustments may be required to meet QBCC requirements.  

Link Block Retaining Wall

  • Various styles are available  
  • No deep footings are required. Strip footings as shallow as 200mm can be made. 
  • Great appearance, can be shaped and curved, so there are many options for the end result. 
  • 8 different colour combinations that can be matched to the home.
  • Textured surface 
  • Recommended maximum height of 1 meter  
  • Not suitable for subdivision of land when the blocks are narrow 

Mortarless Block System Retaining Wall

  • Made of high-strength concrete elements, dry-stacked, and interlocked with pins.
  • Interlock and stack like children’s building blocks.
  • These systems are installed on a compacted road base, which is much easier to install than a concrete foundation.
  • The blocks are available in a range of colours, including black and cream, and there are several block surface textures, including the traditional split block surface.
  • Some retaining wall blocks can be built to over 1m without reinforcement.
