Costs vary depending on the materials used, labour price and wall size.
To build a retaining wall, starting costs are approx $350/sq metre. The site and materials are also taken into consideration

City Council approval may be necessary to ensure the public’s safety and the environment.
A retaining wall under 1 metre should not require approval UNLESS there is an overlay on the land eg bushfires, wetlands, heritage
Local City Council (LCC) approval may be necessary to ensure the public’s safety and the environment.
It is always best to speak to us and we can advise you the steps to take so that your retaining wall can be approved and built without council headaches.

Retaining walls are not classed as fences under the Neighbourhood Disputes Resolution Act 2011.
They are built to ensure that excavated soil is kept in place. They are typically not shared in costs as one neighbour benegfits from a retaining wall more than the other. If there is confustion or a dispute QCAT may need to be involved to settle the dispute.

My husband and I inherited a 30 year old, 30m long timber retaining wall when we bought our home in Wishart. It was failing and a complete mess, not to mention a serious safety hazard. It was also across services, in between 2 pools (ours and our neighbour’s), and higher than 1m. We had several builders inspect the job and none of them were up to the challenge until we met Rodney. He promptly quoted the job and expertly explained the process of the build (it was our first time building a retaining wall). His team completed the job in 8 days and worked incredibly hard to deliver us a spectacular wall and fence that will last forever. They were extremely professional and friendly and left our yard clean and tidy after each day. They also completed some additional excavation works to assist us in future renovations.
