Probably! Pergolas with a footprint greater than 10 square meters or a height of 2.4 meters require a building permit.

Building permits are not required for:

  • a small tool shed barn or similar up to 10 m2, except in a tropical cyclone area.
  • a retaining wall 1 m high (if no loads rest on top of it, such as a building or driveway)
  • a fence no higher than 2 m (except swimming pool fences).
